Mark Hester had 17 points against Baldwin-Wallace, but could not prevent a second consecutive loss
Box Score
A loss is a loss, but two losses is a streak.
For the first time since December of 2010, the John Carroll men's basketball team is suffering through the trials of back-to-back losses as crosstown and Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin-Wallace snapped a seven-game skid in the series with an emphatic 78-62 win Wednesday night in Berea, Ohio.
Coming off a double-digit road setback to Otterbein Saturday night, John Carroll was hoping to rebound against an opponent it had not lost to in the careers of any current player on the roster.
But Baldwin-Wallace took the lead for good just seven minutes into the contest and never looked back.
JCU trailed by a 26-15 count entering the final four minutes of the opening half, but used an 11-2 run to close to within 28-28-26 when
Mark Hester scored off an an offensive rebound. But the Yellow Jackets answered with a three-pointer to take a 31-26 advantage into the locker room.
It was all Baldwin-Wallace in the second half, as the Yellow Jackets led by as many as 18 en route to its first win over John Carroll since February 20, 2008.
Kyle Payne led the home squad with a game-high 24 points as Baldwin-Wallace improved to 14-8 overall and 9-6 in the OAC.
Hester led John Carroll with 17 points as the Streaks dropped to 15-6 overall and 10-5 in the OAC. Perhaps more importantly, JCU falls into a three-way tie with Marietta and Wilmington for second place in the OAC -- two full games behind Capital with three to play.
The last time John Carroll had fallen in consecutive games was when it lost to Ohio Northern (12/11/2010) and Otterbein (12/18/2010). It has been since the end of the 2007-08 season that the Streaks have lost three games in a row.
