The month of October has been kind to the John Carroll University women's soccer team, as it has lost only once since the beginning of the month. Tonight, the Blue Streaks closed in on their sixth consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament with a 4-1 walloping of visiting Heidelberg.

After having outscored its last five opponents 11-2, JCU wasted little time scoring.

Sophomore Kay Akerly scored the first of her three goals off assists from junior Jackie Murrer and freshman Danielle Sharbaugh in the fifth minute. With a 1-0 lead in hand, the Blue and Gold stayed on the offensive.

In the 39th minute, sophomore Camille Arth charged in to rebound a Kristen Profeta free kick and score her first career goal to give the Blue Streaks a 2-0 advantage.

JCU went into halftime with a sound 2-0 lead as well as a 13-0 shot advantage.

The second half was much of the same for the Blue Streaks, who continued to dominate possession. In the 76th minute of action, Akerly again added the icing to the cake when she scored her second goal of the match, her 11th of the season.

Fortunately for the Blue Streaks, Akerly wasn't done there. Two minutes later, she topped off a spectacular performance with her third goal of the day to give herself a hat trick and her team the 4-0 lead.

To add to the late scoring frenzy, the 'Berg was able to knock in a goal of their own in the 80th minute as senior Krista Blake scored to cut the deficit to 4-1. However, it was too-little, too-late for Heidelberg as the Blue Streaks held on for the convincing 4-1 win at home.

With the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 9-5-3 overall and claim sole possession of third place in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
