Nate Sharbaugh's second half goal seemed to open the floodgates in what became a 6-0 victory over Oberlin
Box Score After knocking on the door for most of the first half, the door flew wide open in the second as the Blue Streaks scored five times in the final 45 minutes for a 6-0 win over host Oberlin College in the season opener for both squads Friday in Oberlin, Ohio.
Box Score
John Carroll outshot the Yeomen by a 12-3 count in the opening period, but only had a single goal to show for it. That tally came off the foot of Mariusz Trciak in the 11th minute.
An unlikely goal seemed to open the floodgates. Goalkeeper
Carl Contrascier sent a booming punt downfield which
Nathan Sharbaugh tracked down and used to fire a shot that connected. His goal made the score 2-0 in the 61st minute.
The Blue Streaks would ice the game with four goals in the final 20 minutes. Brian Potoncik tallied two, Alec Petro added one (and assisted on another) and
Wycliffe Odhiambo joined the parade as JCU cruised to a 6-0 win.
The six goals were the most by the Streaks since tallying that same number in their 2009 season opener at home against Malone.
Contrascier made three saves for the shutout.
John Carroll (1-0) will face Allegheny (1-0) in what becomes a championship match in the four-team Oberlin College Invitational. Allegheny defeated Centre, 2-0, in the second match Friday.
