Kaylin Akerly (#4) got the Blue Streaks on the scoreboard first in their battle with Grove City
Box Score It is quite possible the Grove City Wolverines had vengeance on their collective minds upon their arrival Saturday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium. It was on this exact date and location last year that the host John Carroll Blue Streaks defeated the Wolverines by a 2-0 score.
But the visitors' vengeance was diverted by a player who was seeking some payback of her own after missing that game -- as well as the entire season -- due to injury in 2010.
John Carroll junior
Kristen Profeta continued her comeback by tallying what proved to be the game winning goal in the 85th minute as John Carroll edged Grove City by a 2-1 count.

Despite the Wolverines tough defense, the Blue Streaks managed to attempt a fair share of shots against their opponents during the first half. John Carroll outshot their opponent by an 8-4 margin in the first half alone.
It was not until there were less than 29 minutes left in the first half that the Streaks continuous efforts for a goal paid off. Freshman Kaylin Akerly scored her first collegiate goal on an assist by
Colleen Harmon to give John Carroll the early 1-0 lead.
The Wolverines best chance to equalize in the opening half came with less than five minutes showing on the clock. Morgan Osterhouse peppered a shot through a crowd of players, but John Carroll goalkeeper Nicole Gyrs deflected the shot, preserving her team's one goal advantage.
Once the second half began, it was clear that the Wolverines were determined to make a run at the Blue Streaks. A tireless effort to even the score was rewarded when Sarah Peachley took a pass from Megan Johnson and found the right side of the goal with 17 minutes left in regulation.
Overtime seemed to be in the offing as neither team could establish a consistent attack. But when the Wolverines were unable to clear the ball from their end late in the contest, the Blue Streaks seized upon the opportunity.
With just over five minutes left, freshman
Kelly Kertis curled a pass to a wide open
Kayla Acklin. The sophomore defender then touched a pass to Profeta, who gathered the ball, put a move on a rushing defender and sailed a shot into the left side of the net.
“It was exciting,” explained Profeta. “We knew that we didn't have that much time left and that we needed to score. Luckily I did.”
After the game ended both teams came together and joined hands in a prayer circle.
“We always do a prayer circle after every game with Grove City,” said
Mari O'Neill. “Its tradition.”
The win marks the Streaks second win for the weekend, moving their record to 2-2. JCU held the overall edge in shots, 17-8. Grove City, which opened the season 2-0, went zero-for-two on the weekend in Cleveland (also lost to Case, 1-0, in double overtime Friday).
