One comeback was nice. Two doubled the fun.

John Carroll rallied from a 6-0 deficit in game one and  a 4-1 hole in game two to produce an improbable sweep of visiting Capital Sunday afternoon at Schweickert Field.

John Carroll fell behind quickly 6-0, and had to spend the rest of game one climbing upfill. Ryan Konsler's lead off home run in the bottom of the second ignited the first rally, as a four-run frame closed the gap to 6-5.

Capital fended off the first surge with three runs in the third to take a 9-5 lead, but did not score again thanks to outstanding work from reliever Robbie Bellusci.

In the meantime, JCU hacked away, collecting three runs in the fourth with the help of a two-run triple by Jeremy Phelps. The Blue Streaks tied the game at 9-9 on a Joe Veltri bases loaded walk in the sixth.

The game was extended into the eighth inning (originally scheduled for seven), where Veltri once again had an impact. After Konsler reached on an error, Veltri delivered a soft liner that scored Konsler from second for the game-winning run.

Doug Finley, who pitched two scoreless innings, picked up his first collegiate win.

In the second game, John Carroll jumped out to a 1-0 lead, only to have Capital score four times to take a 4-1 lead in the top of the fourth.

The Blue Streaks would answer the bell in the fifth, scoring six times to take a 7-4 lead. Dan Potter and Chris larry each had hits that plated a pair of runs.

Joe Bossard (who improved to 2-1), Tom Schaberl and Finley worked the final two innings of scoreless relief to preserve the victory.

John carroll is now 12-14 overall and 6-4 (T-3rd) in the OAC. Capital falls to 8-18 and 4-6 in league play.
