Men's Soccer Falls To Capital in Bexley, Redirects Focus Towards OAC Tournament

Geoff Bloom made a pair of saves in his first start of the 2011 season for the Blue Streaks
No team likes to close out a regular season schedule with a loss, but this one had very little sting to it.

With no chance to move up or down as far as the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament seedings were concerned, the Blue Streaks -- firmly locked in as a #2 seed -- had little to play for in suffering a 2-0 setback to the Capital Crusaders on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.

Box Score

John Carroll, who clinched the #2 seed for next week's OAC tournament with a 1-0 victory over Baldwin-Wallace on Tuesday, could not overcome an inspired performace by the Crusaders on their Senior Day.

R.G. Florey put Capital ahead early, as he found the corner of the net in the 20th minute off a pass from Luke Froehlich.

The Streaks (11-7, 7-2 OAC) had chances to get on the scoreboard, outshooting the Crusaders, 15-9, but could not put together a scoring play.

Capital added the game's final tally off the foot of Dan McCarthy in 54th minute.

With the OAC tournament looming next week, 20 different players saw action in the game for John Carroll.  Goalkeeper Carl Contrascier, who helped the Blue Streaks shut out three of their last four opponents prior to today, did not play in the match.

John Carroll will receive a first round bye in the OAC tournament, which begins Monday.  The Blue Streaks will play on Wednesay at a time to be announced against an opponent to be determined by the quarterfinal results.

Tournament pairings will be available on www.oac.org and www.jcusports.com as soon as possible.
