Scoring Gaps Costly For Blue Streaks As JCU Men's Swimming & Diving Falls In Finale

Brennan Schloendorn was poised for a big day at Baldwin-Wallace, winning the 200 Free and swimming on the victorious 200 Free Relay
There were many wins and points to be had for the John Carroll men's swimming and diving team Saturday at Baldwin-Wallace, but the same was true for the host yellow Jackets.

In the end, Baldwin-Wallace's point haul was greater in what became a 138.5-103.5 defeat for JCU in the final regular season dual meet of the 2010-11 season.

Results

John Carroll posted five wins on the day, and in those wins earned 63 of its points. Drew Edson (Birmingham, MI, Brother Rice ) started off well as he won the 1000 Free in 10;39.73 -- almost a full 20 seconds faster than the second-place swimmer.

Brennan Schloendorn (Westlake, St. Ignatius) and Alex Vereshchagin (Solon, OH, Solon) followed with wins in the 200 and 50 Free, respectively. Schloendorn won his race in 1:48.65, with Jimmy Ranallo (Willoughby, OH, Notre-Dame Cathedral Latin) a close second at 1:48.74, while Vereshchagin won his sprint event in 22.09.

Vereshchagin later won the 100 Free in 48.33.

In the meantime, Baldwin-Wallace was taking advantage of scoring gaps in several of the events, and had an insurmountable lead by the time the final event rolled around. Nevertheless, Ranallo, David Sved (Loudonville, OH, Mansfield St. Peters), Schloendorn and Vereshchagin won the 200 Free Relay by over six seconds with a time of 1:29.61.

JCU ends the regular season 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
