Matching the best start in the Cally Plummer era, the John Carroll volleyball team reached the championship match of the 2010 Ohio Wesleyan University Bishop Invitational Saturday at Branch Rickey Arena in Delaware, Ohio.

After sweeping Ohio Wesleyan Friday (25-22, 25-18, 25-21), JCU survived a marathon with Adrian Saturday morning (25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 19-25, 15-11) and then posted another sweep of Grove City (25-17, 25-19, 25-8) to complete pool play 3-0.

In the championship match Saturday afternoon, John Carroll fell to 2009 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) semifinalst Alma by a 25-17, 25-17, 25-22 score.

JCU, now 4-1 on the season, finished the two-day tourney with a 3-1 mark. The 4-1 start matches that of the 2008 team as the best in Plummer's five seasons as head coach of the Blue Streaks.

Meredith McDiarmid and Kerry Fox were named to the all-tournament team.
