The John Carroll men's tennis team had not seen competitive action since March 19, but the hiatus had little effect on the Blue Streaks Wednesday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference match with Otterbein.

On the strength of a sweep in doubles play, JCU rolled to a 7-2 triumph -- marking the team's first victory of the 2009-2010 campaign.

Box Score

Ryan Mullaney (Chicago, IL, Nazareth Academy) and Chad Ruehs (Poland, OH, Poland Seminary)set the tone with a strong performance at #1 doubles, rolling over Tyler Brodhead and Ryan Catanese by an 8-4 score. Michael Hulseman (Winnetka, IL, Loyola Academy) and Ross Venzke (Holland, OH, Toledo St. John's) followed suit with an 8-5 victory over Steven Albert and Ryan Roberts at #2 doubles.

JCU's most interesting pairing was at #3 doubles, were first-time teammates Matt Tomayko and Edward Zalar (Broadview Heights, OH) fought off Jonathan Smith and Brian Pollock for an 8-6 win.

In singles play, Mullaney, Ruehs, Venzke and Tomayko all posted wins.
