Softball Streaks Use The "Big Inning" To Reverse Fortunes In Westerville

Michelle Murphy would reach base safely seven times in one doubleheader in JCU's sweep of Otterbein
The "Big Inning" does not happen often in softball, so when is does occur, it is meant to be savored.

For the two hour bus ride back to University Heights, the John Carroll softball team will not only savor a pair of victories over Otterbein College, but also savor the fact that a six-game skid has come to an end.

A nine-run fifth inning sealed the deal in an 11-1 win in the opener, and then in a big six-run second inning helped deliver an 11-0 triumph in the nightcap.

Box Scores:  Game 1  /  Game 2

JCU was leading by a 2-1 margin whent he big inning arrived in full force Friday afternoon in Westerville. The Blue Streaks plated nine runs, including eight with two outs, to pusg the margin up to 11-1. The big blows were a pair of RBI doubles by Laura Boselovic (Wexford, PA, North Allegheny) and Erin Riccardi (North Canton, Hoover).

All the offense was in support of Brittany Danilov (Canfield, OH, Canfield), who gave up just one run on two hits in picking up her fifth win of the year.

In the second game, John Carroll struck early. After scoring a single run in the top of the first, the Streaks scored six times in the second. RBI hits by Michelle Murphy (Erie, PA, Villa Maria Academy), Riccardi, Sam Thompson (Cheektowaga, NY, Maryvale) and Danilov fueled the outburst.

John Carroll put the game out of reach in the fifth inning with four more runs, and then Thompson finished off a one-hit shutout with a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth. The only hit Thompson allowed was a one out single in the second inning.

JCU improves to 9-11 and 2-2 in the OAc with the wins, while Otterbein falls to 3-13 and 0-4 in league play.
