When a movie has a bad ending, it usually prevents a repeat viewing.
The same goes for sports endings, but the difference is repeating viewings are sometimes unavoidable.
John Carroll had seen the walk off home run once already this week at Denison to complete a sweep, and on Saturday afternoon in Ada, it would happen again. A solo home run in the bottom of the seventh enabled host Ohio Northern to finish off the Blue Streaks, 8-0 and 8-7.
Box Scores: Game One / Game Two
The losses dropped John Carroll to 7-9 overall and starts the Streaks' Ohio Athletic Conference schedule with an 0-2 mark. The eighth ranked Polar Bears move to 15-1 and 2-0 in league play.
Ohio Northern rocked JCU to the tune of eight runs on six hits in the opener, completing the shutout victory in five innings. Game one starter Courtney Cash held JCU to four hits as the Streaks were shutout for the second time in three games.
Cash looked so good in game one that Ohio Northern started her again in game two. John Carroll made the decision look like a bad one when they tagged her for six runs in the first inning on seven hits. Mackenzie Griffin (Lake Oswego, OR, Lakeridge) would chase Cash with a two-out two-run double.
Trouble was, JCU only got to reliever Maggie Molnar for one more run the remainder of the day.
In the meantime, ONU would chip away. Kim Blewett, who homered twice in game one, doubled home the first two runs in the third. Chrissy Rankin (home run), Katie Salay (triple) and Jackie Fought (double) were the first three batters in the sixth, and all three scored to tie the game at 6-6.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Cassie Gaye ended the game with a solo home run.
