Late Goals Stun Blue Streaks As JCU Suffers First Home Loss Of 2009

Michael Zumerling and the JCU defense had Allegheny figured out until the late stages of Tuesday night's match

For the first time this season, John Carroll relinquished a lead and wound up dropping a 3-2 overtime decision at home to Allegheny College in a windy and rain-soaked Don Shula Stadium Tuesday night.

The three goals were the most given up by JCU this season and the loss was the first at home by the Blue Streaks in 2009.

Things started off strong for JCU as Wycliffe Odhiambo (Chagrin Falls, OH, University School) -- making his first career start -- seized upon a lose ball and drilled in a shot from 10 yards out for a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.

But Allegheny bounced back in the 18th minute when James Fulton evened the score. But five minutes later, David Hickey would put JCU on top with his second goal of the season.

JCU held the 2-1 lead until the very late going. With less than two minutes to play, Ryan Spisak threw a ball into the box but the Streaks could not clear. Fulton was able to pick the ball clean and drill a shot to the low left corner for the equalizer.

The Gators had the only two shots of, overtime, and cashed in on the second. When a cross was not handled, the ball right at the feet of Tom Ludwig, who ended the game at the 91:50 mark.

JCU held a 12-9 advantage in shots, built largely by an 8-2 margin in the first half.

The loss drops John Carroll's record to 6-3-2 while Allegheny moves up to 5-3-1.
