Tom Schaberl's three scoreless innings of relief helped JCU complete a come from behind win over Oberlin
Box Score
John Carroll rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to post a 6-4 win over Oberlin College in a non-conference game held Wednesday afternoon at Schweickert Field.
By scoring six unaswered runs, the Blue Streaks won their fifth consecutive game and their 24th overall on the season. The 24 wins are one shy of tying the team record of 25 set by the 1998 squad.
Oberlin scored once in the first inning and three more times in the second to build a 4-0 leadd off starter Chris Eggleton.
The Streaks cut the deficit in half when back-to-back RBI singles by Tim O'Brien and Brian Benander made the s core 4-2 in the bottom of the third. But the Yeomen appeared poised to do more damage in the top of the fourth.
In his first inning of relief, Michael Eden would load the bases with no one out. He got a ground out back to the mound for the first out, a strikeout on the second batter, and a fly out to center for the third and final out.
Oberlin would only get two more runners in scoring position the rest of the game.
While Eden and Tom Schaberl kept the Oberlin bats quiet, the John Carroll bats kept chipping away. RBI singles by Bryan Robinett and Chris Cairo would tie the game at 4-4 in the sixth, and then Benander struck with the game winning hit in the bottom of the seventh.
O'Brien led off the inning with a triple, after which Benander drove him home with a single to center.
Once JCU grabbed the lead, Schaberl would retire the final six batters he faces, two by strikeouts, to improve to 5-0 on the year.
John Carroll is now 24-8 while Oberlin falls to 14-24.
