Some nights are not meant to be, and for the John Carroll women's basketball team, Tuesday night in Delaware, Ohio, was one of those nights.
It was a night that simply belonged to Ohio Wesleyan from the outset, as the Battling Bishops scored 23 of the first 31 points and never looked back in rolling to an 80-67 victory.

Kayla Gordon scored 11 of her 16 points in that opening 23-8 burst to start the game, but JCU did attempt to stem the early surge. When
Caitlin Sureck (Medina, OH, Walsh Jesuit)dropped in a lay-up with 9:19 left in the opening half, the Blue Streaks had trimmed the advantage down to seven points at 27-20.
The visiting Streaks still were within seven points at 35-28 with 4:46 remaining following a
Sadie Zander (Vermillion, OH, Vermillion) lay-up, but the host Battling Bishops closed the half much like they started. Ohio Wesleyan scored 17 of the final 25 points to take a 53-35 lead into halftime.
The closest John Carroll would get to the Bishops in the second half was 13 points, which was the final margin.
Ohio Wesleyan (3-0) was led by Gordon and Tyler Cordell, both of whom scored 16 points. The battling Bishops were solid from beyond the arc, making 7-15 (.467) from long range as compared to 1-13 (.077) for the Blue Streaks
