John Carroll Unable To Slow Down Fast-Starting Battling Bishops

Caitlin Sureck had a season-high 19 points in JCU's battle with Ohio Wesleyan
Some nights are not meant to be, and for the John Carroll women's basketball team, Tuesday night in Delaware, Ohio, was one of those nights.

Kayla Gordon scored 11 of her 16 points in that opening 23-8 burst to start the game, but JCU did attempt to stem the early  surge. When Caitlin Sureck (Medina, OH, Walsh Jesuit)dropped in a lay-up with 9:19 left in the opening half, the Blue Streaks had trimmed the advantage down to seven points at 27-20.

The closest John Carroll would get to the Bishops in the second half was 13 points, which was the final margin.

Ohio Wesleyan (3-0) was led by Gordon and Tyler Cordell, both of whom scored 16 points. The battling Bishops were solid from beyond the arc, making 7-15 (.467) from long range as compared to 1-13 (.077) for the Blue Streaks Lee Jennings (Stow, OH, Stow).

John Carroll (1-3), which dropped its third straight after a season-opening win at Wooster, received 19 points from both Sureck and .
