Blue Streaks Prevail In OAC Women's Soccer Quarterfinals With 1-0 Win Over Heidelberg

Erika Eberhardt (#18) and the JCU defense held an opponent scoreless for the eighth time this year
John Carroll used a Caitlyn Walton goal in the 68th minute to prevail by a 1-0 score over Heidelberg in the quarterfinal round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Monday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.

Box Score

The #3 seeded Blue Streaks and #6 seeded 'Berg played to a standstill over the first 45 minutes. JCU dominated the first stages of the opening period, as Elizabeth Daigler had two near misses. Heidelberg, however, controlled the latter stages of the half and had close calls on shots by Krista Blake, Shara perry and Melissa Shomody.

After an even first half where shots were evenly split at 4-4, John Carroll would control the second half. Despite controlling possession, John Carroll could not break the deadlock until Daigler was fouled just outside the box with just over 23 minutes left to play in regulation.

Walton would take the ensuing free kick, and ripped it into the upper left corner of the net for what proved to be the game-inning goal at 67:11.

JCU would remain in control as Heidelberg managed just one more shot on goal over the final 22 minutes.

With the win, John Carroll improves its record to 9-9-2 overall and will advance to play at #2 seed Ohio Northern in the semifinal round of the OAC Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 2:00 p.m.

Heidelberg ends its season at 7-12-1.
