Box Score
John Carroll engaged Wooster in a game reminiscent of a home run derby as eight balls left the yard at Art Murray Field Wednesday in Wooster, Ohio.
Trouble was, the Blue Streaks were outmanned and eventually outscored despite an early lead, as JCU fell by a 10-7 score in a single nine-inning contest.
John Carroll led by scores of 5-0 and 6-2, but could not manage to stop its losing skid, which has now reached a season-long four games.
The Blue Streaks took a 2-0 lead after the first inning as Adam Sockel hit the first of his two home runs down the left field line.
JCU wouild tack on three more in the second inning as both Michael Krainz and Sean McCarthy came through with RBI singles. Both McCarthy (11) and Krainz (10) extended lengthy hitting streaks with those hits.
After Wooster scored a single run in the third, Pat Christensen would lead off the fourth with a solo home run to cut the Streaks' lead to 5-2. But Sockel answered with a lead-off solo home run in the top of the fifth to push the advantage back up to 6-2.
That would be the end of John Carroll's participation in the home run derby. Wooster unfortunately was just getting warmed up.
The Fighting Scots had a lead-off home run in the bottom of the fifth, then had two long balls in the sixth that plated three runs to tie the score at 6-6.
Matt Johnson gave Wooster its first lead with a solo shot in the bottom of the seventh, but JCU would tie the game in the top of the eighth when Glen Testen scored from third on a double play.
John Carroll had no answer for Wooster in the bottom of the eighth. Christensen's second home run of the game off JCU senior Brandon Kurtz was the backbreaker as the Fighting Scots scored the final three runs of the game for the inning margin.
The Blue Streaks fall to 22-13 while Wooster improves to 32-7. Wooster also had the edge in hits 16-10.
