Michael Krainz drove in three runs against Oberlin, extending his hitting streak to ten games
Box Score
After going 32 games without allowing an opponent to score in double figures, the John Carroll pitching staff yielded a double-digit scoring output for the second consecutive game as the Blue Streaks fell to the host Oberlin College Yeomen, 12-11, in ten innings at Dill Field in Oberlin, Ohio.
The loss extends John Carroll's current losing streak to a season-long three games.
John Carroll trailed 4-1 after three innings, but would storm back in the fifth and sixth innings. After scoring three runs (two unearned) in the fifth to tie the score at 4-4, some newer faces provided the fireworks in the sixth. Brian Wisniewski, in his first varsity at bat, singled home Dan Sabella for the go-ahead run. Rob Cool and Michael Krainz would follow with RBI singles to extend JCU's lead to 7-4.
The Blue Streaks would be unable to hold the lead, however, allowing three runs in the bottom of the sixth. The big blow was a bases loaded two out double by Ben Puterbaugh that plated three runs to tie the game at 7-7.
JCU appeared to regain control in the top of the seventh. Sabella, Russell Toth, Krainz and Sean McCarthy# all had RBI in the inning to give JCU would should have been a commanding 11-7 lead.
The Yeomen responded yet again. A walk, a triple and a balk would score two runs to start the inning, then Oberlin got two out magic, the last of which was a Shane Hisner RBI single that tied the game at 11-11.
Reliever Marty Smith pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth, but ran into trouble in the tenth. With two outs, a throwing error extended the inning. Smith walked the next batter intentionally to get to Brandon Cantrill, but Cantrill responded with a game-wining single.
John Carroll is now 22-12 on the year while Oberlin improves to 11-24. It was only John Carroll's third loss to a team with a losing record this season.
