John Carroll Still Searching For Consistency Following Losses To Rose Hulman and Adams State

Julie Marlowe had two hits in a loss to Division II Adams State Tuesday

Box Scores:  vs. Rose-Hulman Institute of Tech.  /  vs. Adams State

In just their second day of outdoor competition in 2008, the Blue Streaks found they were still knocking off some rust, especially on defense.

A number of errors contributed as much as anything to a pair of losses on Tuesday in Tucson, Arizona. The first loss was by an 8-4 score to Division III Rose Hulman, and the second was an 8-0 defeat at the hands of Division II Adams State.

In game one, Rose-Hulman scored eight runs on ten hits, but several of the runs were unearned as JCU miscues extended some of the innings.

The Engineers scored four times in the first inning, then -- after JCU had pulled to within 5-4 -- scored three more times in the fifth inning to ice the game away. Jamie Smrdel had a big two RBI double during John Carroll's three-run top of the fifth inning that helped narrow the early deficit.

Adams State was methodical in its victory over JCU, scoring single runs in the first, second, fourth and fifth innings while posting four runs in the third. The Blue Streaks offense was limited to three hits -- two by Julie Marlowe and one by Smrdel.

The losses drop John Carroll's record to 1-3 on its spring trip.
