John Carroll was tough on defense and opportunistic on offense in producing a convincing 84-62 victory over Ohio Northern Saturday in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up held at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The victory snapped a two-game skid for the Blue Streaks and helped even John Carroll's conference mark as well as push its overall record back over .500.
JCU got out to a quick 9-3 lead, but could not pull away. Ohio Northern would finally catch the Blue Streaks and pull ahead when a pair of Alisha Rinehart free throws gave the visitors a 21-20 lead with 5:36 remaining in the opening period.
John Carroll responded with a 15-5 run to close out the half, keyed by a combined 13 points from Rachael Price and Caitlin Sureck. The Blue Streaks took a 35-25 lead into halftime.
To start the second half, John Carroll picked up where it left off. Over the first six minutes of the period, the Blue Streaks would outscore the Polar Bears by an 18-7 margin to open its largest lead of the game at 53-33.
Ohio Northern would not get closer than 13 points the remainder of the afternoon.
John Carroll (5-4, 2-2 OAC) was paced by a season-high 19 points from Price, who was one of four players to hit double figures for the Blue Streaks. Sureck, who was 8-12 from the field, added 16 points, while Lee Jennings (14 points, seven assists) and Whitney Hamilton (11 points) also reached double digits.
The Blue Streaks forced 16 turnovers and blocked nine shots to halt a four-game losing streak at the hands of the Polar Bears.
Ohio Northern (4-5, 3-1 OAC), which suffered its first league loss of the year, received a game-high 23 points from Rinehart. Steph Hicks, who was 7-8 from the floor, was the only other Polar Bear in double figures with 14.
