Box Score

John Carroll scored three times in the second half to break a scoreless tie in what became a 3-1 victory over visiting Heidelberg Wesnesday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference match played at Don Shula Stadium.

In a scoreless opening 45 minutes, John Carroll came on strong to begin the match, launching several shots at the Heidelberg goal keeper Lauren Sweeney.  John Carroll put eight shots on goal in the first period and only allowed three shots from Heidelberg attackers.

Sweeney made several stellar saves in the early going including a diving save on a penalty kick by Caitlyn Walton.  Walton's shot was blocked and almost trickled in before Sweeney jumped to her feet and prevented the rebound from going in.

The Blue Streaks aggression eventually paid off in the second half as #Walton# avenged her earlier miss.  Walton pulled a slick move on her defender and unloaded from 20 yards out, sending the ball soaring over Sweeney''s head for the first goal of the match. See video of Walton's goal by clicking here

JCU continued pressing the attack, and looked poised for a second goal when Brynn McNicholas attacked down the left side. Unfortunately, McNiholas did not see a wide open Erika Eberhardt cutting to the goal and the opportunity went by the wayside with just over 16 minutes left in regulation. Minutes later McNicholas would get a second chance. In almost the exact same circumstance, she found Eberhardt open, and slipped a beautiful pass through two defenders. Eberhardt finished the play with her third goal of the season to give the Blue Streeaks a 2-0 lead with under 13 minutes left in the game.

Heidelberg would not go away quietly. After Lauren Marchinoi made a save on a set piece off a corner kick that got behind Michelle Zrebiec, the ball trickled out and was fired in by Emily Riggs to cut the Blue Streaks lead in half with only six minutes left in regulation.

Brynn McNicholas would ice the game with 1:51 left to play when, after heading a ball off a Walton corner kick, would kick in her second goal of the year after Lauren Wilson and Eleanor Sovacool bounced the ball around in the box.

John Carroll finished the game taking 19 shots and only allowing four.

JCU is now 9-2-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the OAC, while Heidelberg falls to 4-6-3 and 0-2-1 in league play.
