John Carroll's eight match regular season winning streak in Ohio Athletic Conference play ended Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to host Capital University in Bexley, Ohio.
The Blue Streaks had won their first three matches of the regular season this year and the last five of 2006. Losses to Capital bookend the winning streak -- JCU also lost by a 3-1 count to Capital last year.
Capital opened the scoring in the 35th minute on a goal by Steven McCarthy, and would hold that 1-0 lead until Joe Snyder punched in the host school's second goal just two minutes into the second half.
John Carroll cut the lead in half when Steve Rock scored off an Alex Bernot corner kick in the 68th minute, but Capital would ice the match on McCarthy's second goal of the day in the 84th minute.
Capital, which is currently ranked #24 in Division III, controlled the tempo throughout, finishing the match with an 11-3 advantage in shots. The Crusaders are now 9-1-3 overall and 2-1-1 in league play.
The loss drops John Carroll to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the OAC. The Blue Streaks are currently in a four-way tie for first place along with Heidelberg, Ohio Northern and Otterbein -- the latter of whom JCU will face at home Saturday afternoon.
